The Lalu

[22/01/10]

Taiwan’s Zen Catcher

In Taiwan, there is a lake where the spirits dwell and legends linger. Sun Moon Lake, once a favorite escape for Chiang Kai Shek, is a place where time stands still, where Blackberrys are silenced and where emails go unheeded. In the lake’s centre, a solitary tree stands on a tiny, sacred island that can only be visited by the priests of the local aboriginal tribe, and mists swirl around the pagoda built for his beloved mother.

If that description alone isn’t enough to convince your lady love to gallivant towards Taiwan’s most famous lake, the luxurious Lalu resort certainly will. Formerly the lakeside retreat of the Generalissimo, Lalu’s minimalist design is focused on guests re-capturing their zen (and their libido). You can cruise the lake in a replica of one of Chiang’s motor yachts or retreat from the world in one of the Courtyard Pool Villas, each a luxurious and tranquil compound hidden behind 3m walls, with its own temperature-controlled plunge pool – perfect for those midnight skinny dips. Enjoy the solitude of in-villa spa sessions and don’t forget the open fireplace, with plenty of throw rugs for Barry White moments.

We’re sure the General would approve.
