Per Aquum Niyama Escape, Re-envisioned

There are many reasons to go to the Maldives:

she might have been on to you about how romantic its tiny, coral-encrusted atolls are, with their slivers of white sand juxtaposed by turquoise waters. Your mates might have urged you to finally try a surf class or get your PADI certification, both of which are a cinch in the Indian Ocean, home to the region’s best diving and breaks. Maybe you’re a family man that’s looking for a destination that not only caters to the kids but also to the boy within? Or perhaps you just need to unplug, dress down and find a shady corner that’s never more than a stone’s throw from a pool, a lagoon or a Mai Tai.

The new face of the Maldives (only five hours from HK) is Per Aquum Niyama, a 45-minute seaplane cruise from the capital but a world away from Hong Kong’s rank namesake. The acclaimed resort recently opened new restaurants and villas on Play, its second island, giving you new found options. You can dance the night away at SubSix, an underwater restaurant come lounge bar that does weekly glow parties; dine among the trees at innovative new restaurant Nest; dive with mantas and sharks or fish for marlin with the team at Float; test your skills at the indoor golf simulator; or toast the sunset at the poolside Fahrenheit bar. But if you’re feeling like taking it slow, retreat to your overwater villa on the other island, Chill (dropping any little ones off at the dedicated kids centre on the way). Have your butler run you and someone ravishing a scented bath, make an appointment at the Lime Spa, home to the only Gentleman’s Tonic treatments in the Maldives, or take a night time dip in the lagoon’s tropical waters under a canopy of stars.

The tough part isn’t going there, it’s coming back.
