TEDxVictoriaHarbour TEDx Travel Conference in HK

[02/05/13]

TED represents man at this best, and on May 11, an offshoot of the phenomenon, TEDx, will return to Hong Kong. Although TEDx is an independently organised conference, its creators get to tap into TED proper for guidance so you’re in for a treat. Plus, the theme is quite interesting – travel. Most of us love to see the world, and TEDx will help you get the most out of your paltry Hong Kong holiday allowance. What would we do without Chinese festivals?

Taking place on Saturday, May 11 at the Sunbeam Theatre in North Point (pictured), the event will feature a variety of speakers including Jamie Wong of Vayable, which offers a market place for unique experiences; Tyson Wheatley, a Senior Editor for CNN.com and avid trail runner; and Chef Andrea Oschetti who closes his Hong Kong private kitchen business twice a year (he cooks at your home or his) in search of adventure. What a life.

The downside is the price. A ticket costs HK$450 which is expensive but at least that comes with food and drink (Peroni, no less). It also entitles you to entry to KEE Club, but after all that discovery, chances are you’ll want to go straight home instead of clubbing and jump on Skyscanner in search of your next destination. Boar hunting in Bulgaria, ice sledging in Siberia, rafting down the Mekong – time to start thinking about CNY 2014.

The first ticket of many.
