The Langham, Yangtze Boutique

Check into The Langham, Yangtze Boutique
We all know Shanghai’s seen better days. The heaving crowds of domestic tourists stare eight-ball-eyed at China’s biggest set of balls - the Pearl Television Tower - their expressions of awe lit up by passing digital billboard barges, while the once-lavish colonial architecture of the Bund and CBD lies quietly in the shadows. But change is afoot.

The new Art Deco-themed Langham Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, located a stone’s throw from the Bund and Nanjing Road, heralds the return of glitz and glamour to downtown Shanghai. Its 96 rooms and suites feature all the necessary elements for a weekend romp for the kinky-prone; sprawling beds, ballroom-sized bathrooms, mega sound systems and even balconies (watch out for wind burn on any overlooking the city. Start your experience off with a champagne breakfasts in the Ciao Dining Room (after all, back then most people were perpetually-plastered), before an adrenalin-pumping city tour a la replica 1930s BMW sidecar with Shanghai Sideways. Then get poked and prodded into submission (not what you think) in the Chuan Spa before hitting the sauce again with The Bar’s list of euphorific elixirs. At 7pm the glam-glam continues when the resident diva struts her stuff down the lobby’s gently spiralling staircase, and if you can drag yourself away from Ernie Ethanol long enough, Hong Kong’s Michelin-starred T’sang Court has its first sister hotel at the Langham.

Time to get Absolutely Shanghai’d.
