Io Uomo Sublime Shoemaker in HK for 24 Hours

[06/05/11]

Patrick Zamparini is an Italian, shoemaking craftsman who’ll be making his first trip to Hong Kong next week for just 24 hours. His products are bespoke – a word that sadly makes you want to reach for a length of rope – but the quality of his wares and the production process itself is as mesmerising as watching a friend suffering from narcolepsy.

He travels around the globe (setting up just a handful of appointments for any given trip) going to his clients offices, homes, boats and so on to take their measurements and explore creative options. Once he's got your details and heard your thoughts, he returns to the atelier to prepare the prototype which is then sent back to you to ensure everything's perfect before final assembly.

Once finished (the whole process takes around two months and €2,000) the shoes are delivered in a wooden, velvet lined box: a perfect little gift to yourself after a break up, or to show your father he was wrong to say you’d never amount to anything.

Needless to say the shoes by Io Uomo (his company) are all handmade and absolutely stunning. You personally decide everything from the shape to the closure and the materials, so if you want to wrap your gnarled, calloused feet in misleadingly attractive shoes – seeing Patrick is a must.

He’s currently sauntering through China but will be in town on May 13, so if you’re interested in a personal appointment, please send him an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or book through the website, www.iouomo.biz.

Bringing a tear to your father’s eye.
