Gieves & Hawkes makes it easier for you to put on the Ritz

As men, we all know how important a good suit is, and would all love to indulge in a shopping spree at the menswear Mecca, London’s Savile Row (if you wouldn’t, you’re a liar), where wizened tailors pass sewing secrets from generation to generation. Short of forking out a lump sum for an airline ticket or hiding in an aircraft’s undercarriage (not advisable), it’s hard to benefit from the years of tradition and pomp of this suit-sewing street.

Gieves & Hawkes, located at number 1 Savile Row, has launched a new service in Hong Kong that adds more mechanisation to the Row’s couture culture, yet keeps the costs down, and still produces the ultimate urban amour. Essentially, get measured at the IFC’s Gieves & Hawkes store, choose your fabric, style, lining and cut (there’s upwards of 2,000 options), and the details are beamed to the home of black pudding and dusty queens (from whom they received one of their three Royal Warrants), where home grown talent, and some complex machinery, work together to create a unique but affordable option to traditional bespoke.

As Holmes would say: “It’s passementerie, my dear Watson”.
