World Championship Boxing Champions of Gold

Of the many sports around, boxing is one that manages to capture the dichotomy of aggression and elegance. A contest of strength, speed, reflexes, endurance, underpinned by sheer force of will and an unwavering commitment to training (just think of famous montage from Rocky), there’s a gritty brutality to the sport that makes it appeal to man’s primal instincts.

But the best boxers also bring a subtle grace to the sport, resulting in stunning displays worthy of the “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee” idiom attributed to heavyweight legend Muhammad Ali.

Glimpse the connection between ferocity and grace at The Venetian Macao in Champions of Gold on 19 July. Headlining the show at the Cotai Arena is Cuban-born undefeated junior featherweight world champion Guillermo “El Chacal “ Rigondeaux, who will be defending his WBA and WBO titles against Thailand’s Sod Looknongyantoy; and two-time Chinese Olympic gold medallist Zou Shiming, who will make his ten-round debut. Other exciting bouts will see three-time world champion Brian Viloria, super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez, and 2012 Russian Olympic gold medallist Ego Mekhontsev take to the ring, along with local favourites Rex Tso, Ng Kuok Kun, and Ik Yang. Tickets start from HK$80/MOP80, and ticket and ferry combos can be purchased from Cotai Ticketing.

Cue Eye of the Tiger on repeat.
