Rum Barber Pop Up Time Your Tried Tequila’s ‘Ugly Sister’

When it came to drinking rum and playing with knives, no one has ever mastered this fine balance quite like cutthroat pirate Edward Teach, otherwise known as Blackbeard.

Although there were more successful buccaneers, none were as feared. At one point in his illustrious, infamous career he mastered four ships and a private pirate army of 300, and was known to lead his troops into battle with two drawn swords and several pistols and blades strapped around his waist. But even the most blood-thirsty pirate enjoys a little pampering now and then, which is where a new pop up at the Mandarin Barber comes in.

From May 4, this luxurious male enclave will host the Rum Barber Pop Up, offering gents an enhanced barbering service and a rum appreciation class in one sitting. With a curated collection of Caribbean rums selected by beverage manager Agung Prabowo, including the ultra-premium Havana Club Máximo Extra Ańejo from Cuba, the Appleton Estate 21 years from Jamaica, and the Plantation XO from Barbados, and authentic Cuban tasters created by executive chef Robin Zavou, likely lads will be able to select from the barber’s extensive menu of wet shaves, facials, haircuts and anti-aging treatments (they even do a mean Shanghainese pedicure) while versing themselves on the history and complexity of Caribbean rum along the way.

"Damnation seize my soul if I give you quarters, or take any from you." - Edward "Blackbeard" Teach, before his final battle.
