Resonant Frequencies

If Three’s a Crowd, Four’s a Party

Four is a pretty special number, if you stop to think about it. The smallest composite number, four has special meaning to many cultures. In Buddhism there are four Noble Truths. In Islam there are four sacred months. Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans and Japanese view the number four with superstition, while we spend our lives ruled by four elements - earth, water, fire and wind - and in the end many of us expect to be hauled away by four ‘horsemen’.

Four is also significant to your ear drums, because that’s how many events Resonant Frequencies will be holding this year. In the wake of Tom Clark’s top notch performance in December, Resonant Frequencies’ tetramer of tenacious DJs for 2010 include jetsetting German prodigy Todd Bodine (March 6); former hip-hop convert turned techno-head Daniel Dreier (June 19); Romanian electro-producer Mihai Popoviciu (Sept 18); and Berlin’s Jens Bond (not James), whose tracks apparently “cum all over the floor” (Dec 11). These independently-run, self-promoted events are a shot in the arm for the HK music scene and will take place at Space, at Wan Chai’s The Hennessy building, with special drinks packages for each performance.

Think of it as the four seasons of sound.
