AudioQuest DragonFly USB USB Audio Jack Radically Improves Computer Sound

[23/11/12]

The DragonFly is a USB stick that boosts the sound coming out of your computer to an unparalleled degree. Imagine - you're watching that scene from Apocalypse Now and instead of hearing "DAN, DAN, DAN, DA", you hear "tin, tin, tin, ti." That's not just weaker volume we're poorly trying to express but inferior sound. If you're watching a flick you want to hear the juicy bits. Imagine Jenna Haze without a decent treble range? It's unthinkable - and we haven't even got to listening to music yet...

The problem is that computers aren't bespoke audio players. They offer a multitude of functions and their sound suffers accordingly. Even in Macs the sound card isn't top of the range but the DragonFly contains a 24-bit ESS SabreTM conversion chip to overcome their limitations. In a nutshell, it's a high-performance piece of kit found in the finest CD and Blu-ray players which means you'll be nodding your head to your music with a grin the size of a small country.

The only downside is the DragonFly costs US$250 - and we all know how easy it is to lose a USB stick. They disappear as quickly as lighters. We're sure, however, you can get over that because men love spending money on audio equipment. The days of the four-tiered hi-fi might be over but this is how you should spend your dollar. If, for instance, your speakers at home play music directly from your computer then it's a must. Even your neighbours will be happy their floorboards shake that much smoother.

Jack it up.
