La Piola Piedmonte Cuisine for the True Connoisseur

[07/02/11]

Italy. It's famous for its fast cars, curvacious women, and men who seem to pull off skin tight white jeans and tiny scooters with style. But it's best known for its food, and for good reason. With a heritage of using only the freshest, locally-sourced ingredients, and with recipes passed down from generation to generation, it's one of the world's most established food cultures, and the lovelies just go ga ga for it.

So if you think you and your fair lady have graduated beyond the mainstream, why not try Hong Kong's first Piedmont-style Italian restaurant? La Piola has opened on Lyndhurst Terrace, offering a host of “momma made them” classics from Northwest Italy's famed Piedmont region.

Modeled on the piola, or traditional casual restaurant of Northern Italy, expect an open-faced wine bar out front, backed by a stylish yet simplistic bistro setting downstairs, and a more elegant dining room framing an open kitchen upstairs.

There's a wine list crammed with hard-to-find Piedmont drops, as well as a menu of regional delicacies featuring home-made pastas, artisan cheeses and of course Piedmont’s famed white truffles, and if dinner's not on the menu, happy hour runs from 5-8pm with complementary canapés for all.

But please, no mother jokes.
