Sakesan Soho's Got A New Robatayaki Joint

[07/01/11]

Hong Kong's fascination with all things Japanese, from their eclectic fashion and metro-sexual boy bands, through to their AV girls and petrol-driven dildos, seems to be a thirst rarely quenched, and if the attendance at NecesCity's recent sake MasterClass is anything to go by, there is plenty more Nippon notions on the horizon.

If you're sushied out, why not try Japan's take on BBQ with Sakesan, Soho's newest robatayaki bar? With a culinary team of 12, led by executive chef Andre L’Herminier and scattered across a series of open kitchens, expect classic Japanese grilled dishes with contemporary twists including homemade steamed tofu; lobster dumplings; mouth-watering rib eye steak; and Sakesan's sake Teriyaki salmon (try saying that five times fast), served amidst chic, lounge-like interiors.

In the evening, the Fiona Bagaman and Mirei Lim-designed restaurant turns into a sexy nightspot, with dishes matched with a great range of sakes, potent awamoris, beers from Japan's regional ji-biru beer movement and Nippon-themed cocktails.
You'll get your Rising Sun fix quicker than a bullet train of screaming, scantily-clad school girls.

“Mecha Kucha”! (pretty bloody awesome in Tokyo slang)
