Alfies by Kee Pub Grub Goes Posh

[27/04/10]

There nothing more gentlemanly than lounging on a chesterfield, swirling a cognac and listening to the latest man-gossip. Think ‘gentlemen’s club’ and the first thoughts that come to mind (once you’ve parted the curtain of Russian escorts in your head) is of plush surrounds, attentive waiters and a wine list that’s longer than your…arm. A place where you can as easily, and discretely, sign a million-dollar contract as order another post-dinner Rusty Nail; a place that’s familiar and homely, like Cheers, but without the alcoholic postman.

Dunhill has teamed up with the Kee Club to create Alfie’s, a club-like restaurant in Central that’s taken on the insurmountable challenge of promoting ‘great British cuisine’. Despite reviews of the food and service being as mixed as a green salad, Alfie’s rich wood and leather tones, coupled with Kee’s modern design twist, creates a comfortable alternative to Central’s over-crowded salad bars, populated by gaggles of half-starved middle-aged women. This is a place where you can order red meat with pride, where even the fish and chips come with gravy, and where the martini lunch lives on like Marley in Kingston.

Pork crackling has a new home.
