Porterhouse by Laris The Man Knows his Meat

David Laris is well known to foodies across the region.

The dynamic Greek-Aussie chef has called Asia home for two decades and his restaurants in China have opened to critical acclaim, including Laris Restaurant on Shanghai’s Bund, which was named Restaurant of the Year three times in a row. In Hong Kong’s he’s had a mixed bag, with Dining Concepts’ Laris Contemporary Dining on Wyndham quickly and quietly morphing into the The Bellbrook as the interpretation was tweaked.

Now he’s back with Porterhouse by Laris, a 76-seat suit-friendly steak restaurant housed high in LKF’s new California Tower. With stylish interiors by Shanghai’s Kokai Studios that include an elegant long bar, a bespoke Meat Locker for aging, a semi-open kitchen and a sexy semi-private dining room, perfect for bachelor party first acts, Porterhouse is an unashamedly modern rendition of a classic steakhouse. Eight cuts, including a few rarely seen in Hong Kong, feature on an extensive menu that also includes Canadian lobsters, jet fresh French oysters, Icelandic scampi, and Santa Monica prawns. If you’re looking for a superb steak this is it, with the signature Lind USDA prime beef Porterhouse on the bone, the Kansas City strip loin, or the 18oz US bone-in tenderloin cooked over charcoal grills and matched with silky sauces, truffle-infused butters and gourmet salts, as well as a beautifully-curated wine list. There’s room at the bar for digestifs and a little terrace at one end that’s ideal for sampling the restaurant’s enticing cigar menu.

The steaks aren’t rushed. Nor should you.
