Comilonas Cause Sharing is Caring

 Hong Kong can’t seem to get enough of Spanish cuisine these days, and with good reason. Not only are the delectable tapas dishes and heart-warming mains of Spanish cuisine food for the soul, but they’re among the most perfect culinary styles to share. The Spanish tradition of sobremesa, or “over the table”, refers to Spanish diners’ tendency to savor the company of their companions, and wine-soaked, raucous meals that linger into the wee hours and are shared with friends new and old are par for the course in España, which is why a Spanish private kitchen like Western’s Comilonas is the ideal spot for some post-festive season togetherness to herald the New Year.

Located in the heart of Shek Tong Tsui, Comilonas serves up lashings of home-style Barcelonan cuisine in intimate surrounds. They may not be able to balance a cheque book or go cold turkey on bullfighting, but the Spanish sure can cook! A set menu, starting from $400 per punter for a minimum of 10, features plenty of Catalan classics, from chicken and ham croquettes, garlic shrimp, juicy chorizo with red wine, and stuffed piquillo peppers, through to black ink paella and stewed pork cheek. Corkage is a very reasonable $50 per bottle, but the owners are naturally biased to their own national drops so it’s flagged on Spanish vinos, which can be enjoyed from the traditional two-handed porró decanter.
